Artist Participation Requirements

General Guidelines for Exhibit

  • GALA, formerly the Gresham Art Committee, was created to serve local artists.

  •  Preference will be given to Gresham and East Multnomah County artists but we may include the surrounding metro area depending on the number of submissions and space available.

  • There is no guarantee that work accepted for review will be selected for the exhibit.

  • There is no charge to the artist to enter 2 items per exhibit.

  • Artists may submit up to 4 works for each show with a small fee for entries #3 and #4.

  • There is no refund if all the entries are not accepted.

  • The curator team will review and select pieces for each show based on artistic merit and fit with the specific show theme while balancing the number of different media for the overall show.

  • Work included in any art show is to remain in the Gresham Council Chambers Lobby for the duration of the exhibit.

  • All artwork must be ready for immediate exhibition (i.e., dry paint, matted, framed and wired, or otherwise ready to be exhibited).

  • The gallery is located in a family friendly, public workplace which includes schools and public safety offices, and is not exclusively used as a gallery. Sensitivity to public use in this venue is appreciated.

Guidelines and Specifications for Submitted Art - Very important, please review

  • All work must be an original composition. No work will be accepted that is copied from or based on copyrighted or published materials, greenware, kits, or any other prepared materials. Artists may be required to validate the originality of their work.

  • No individual item of work previously shown in this gallery will be accepted for a new show.

  • Prints of original artwork, including photos, must be signed and numbered as part of a limited edition. Photography and prints must meet accepted archival standards.

  • Readily reproducible works such as computer-generated art, computer-altered or enhanced photographs, and Giclee® prints must be identified and clearly labeled as such before acceptance and during the show. Archival material is required.

  • All two-dimensional work must be ready to hang with multi-stranded picture wire with sufficient strength to support the art. No saw-toothed hangers or clip-on frames will be accepted. D-rings and wire are preferred. Some helpful links:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdvVu7fMUJo, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlnEfbB2esk

  • All matted artwork must meet professional standards.

  • Artists are responsible for providing and/or ensuring all sculptures, 3D, glass, and freestanding work be displayed in a stable and safe manner.

  • Hanging metalworks, fabric constructions, glass, and other suspended objects must be designed to use gallery wall hooks, similar to the method used for paintings.

  • All canvas pieces shall be framed or have finished edges, which mean they must be painted or otherwise worked upon. Blank edges are not “finished”. Helpful link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhZiXJtIZgc

  • GALA is not obligated to accept or exhibit submitted work, particularly work that is not ready to hang upon arrival at the gallery.
